Who Is (And Isn’t) Returning For ‘Wednesday’ Season 2

The second season of Netflix’s most popular English-language series of all time is back on our screens. That’s right, part one of Wednesday is now available to stream on the platform, and it’s got everyone wondering exactly who is returning, who isn’t… and why.

Though she needs no real introduction, Jenna Ortega has of course reprised her titular role as Wednesday Addams. Ahead of the release, she expressed her gratitude for the creativity of season two. “I’ve learned so much this season. It’s been so cool being a part of conversations — talking about the colour of blood or the colour of prosthetics,” Ortega said. “To be able to learn from someone like Tim [Burton] firsthand has been a very special experience.”

Much of the original cast has returned for Wednesday season two, but it has also been announced one (major!) new face is joining the cast: Lady Gaga. Though Gaga’s Wednesday character was kept under wraps ahead of the season’s premiere, according to Netflix, she plays “the mysterious and enigmatic Rosaline Rotwood, a legendary Nevermore teacher who crosses paths with Wednesday”.

This follows Gaga’s most recent film venture, Joker, in which she played a musically adept Harley Quinn. Her Wednesday role also continues her new ‘ghoul-core’ aesthetic employed for her music video ‘Disease’.

Meanwhile, many familiar faces will return for Wednesday season 2, expect the cast to look a little different. Jenna Ortega will reprise her titular role, and Netflix’s official cast list has confirmed Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo—who play Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley and Ritchie Santiago, respectively—have been upped to season regular status. Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, and Georgie Farmer will also be back, alongside Jamie McShane and Fred Armisen in guest roles.

Some other new faces will be headed to Nevermore, too. Excitingly, Steve Buscemi is onboard as a new series regular, as well as Scoop’s Billie Piper. They will be joined by Evie Templeton, Owen Painter and Noah Taylor.

There are some big names in the guest starring slots as well, including Christopher Lloyd, who played Uncle fester in two of the 1990s Addams Family films. Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley, Frances O’Connor,  Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo and Joonas Suotamo also have guest roles.

Is Gwendoline Christie In Wednesday Season 2?

Unfortunately, Gwendoline Christie will not be back following the death of her character, Larissa Weems, last season.

Why Isn’t Xavier In Wednesday Season 2?

Percy Hynes White, who played Xavier Thorpe, is also not returning for season 2. Hynes White, whose character was a psychic who was able to bring his artworks to life in season one, was expected to return for season two.

Following the release of season 1 in 2022, allegations of assault were posted anonymously on Twitter in January 2023. He has denied the allegations and Netflix has not commented on the alleged incident, though Hynes White is absent from the season two line-up.
