“You Gotta Know Your Gal”: Travis Kelce’s Advice On The Perfect Proposal Is, Perfect

Travis Kelce has made his first public comments (on his New Heights podcast, of course) about his engagement to Taylor Swift, and the man is gunning for our hearts.

Speaking on New Heights with his brother Jason Kelce, the NFL star reflected on the Instagram post “heard around the world,” thanked fans for their support, and shared some sweet wisdom about getting down on one knee for your one and only.

Chatting about the difference between having a girlfriend and a fiancée, Jason referenced a John Mulaney joke, and Travis agreed it’s a whole new ballgame (pun intended). “[It] was my first time introducing Taylor as my fiancée to a few of my teammates,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end shared, reflecting on their recent public outing to the University of Nebraska versus the University of Cincinnati game. Swift, chic as ever, was spotted sipping wine in the stands, casually flashing the paparazzi her blinding 10-carat engagement ring.

Jason jumped in: “Don’t you get giddy saying it?”

“Yeah, I do,” Travis admitted. “I still get giddy—exciting times.”

Jason also revealed that Travis had been agonising over “the perfect way to propose to Taylor and to make it special.” And, if you believe Kelce family lore, he had a little help. According to their dad Ed Kelce—who spoke to the Today show just hours after the announcement—Taylor was getting “antsy,” and Travis had to be gently nudged by both Ed and Taylor’s father, Scott Swift. “We kept trying to tell him, ‘When you do it, that’s what makes it special. So, don’t fret on where. Just get it done.’”

In the end, Travis kept things classic: a huge diamond and a garden proposal at home in Missouri. According to Ed, his son lured Taylor out to the backyard with a glass of wine before dinner (relatable).

From the vintage-inspired, custom-made diamond ring with inscriptions on the side to the intimate setting, so Taylor coded fans drew parallels with the singer’s Lover-era photoshoots. Straight, some might say, from her wildest dreams.

Jason also asked if Travis had any advice for other 92 percenters ready to pop the question.

“Man, you gotta know your gal,” Travis replied, before correcting himself: “or your significant other.” He added, “You can’t let how somebody else does it make you feel like you need to do it that way.”

Jason agreed. “Yeah, you can’t read about it in Cosmopolitan and assume they’re going to know your person.”

“They might get the creative juices flowing,” Travis said, “but you have to know your partner and who you’re doing it for—and do it for the right reasons. Everything else will fall into place.”

As for the bachelor party? Travis said he hasn’t got that far. “Planning the engagement itself was work enough.” “It’s been really fun telling everybody who I’m going to be spending the rest of my life with,” he said. We’re grabbing the tissues.
