28 Unexpected Wedding Looks For Modern Brides From The SS27 Runways

There’s never been more places to look for bridal inspiration — social media and Pinterest are awash with it, bridal blogs are abundant and wedding magazines are still holding strong. But for fashion brides, their eyes are firmly trained on the runways.

Lucky for them, this season was a boon for it. Across the shows, there was an embrace of white, especially on dresses that swung from voluminous and princess-y (Chanel and McQueen, for instance) to more sinuous, sultry shapes at Dior and diaphanous confections at Aje. If suiting is more your speed, there were looks for that, too. Chanel’s collection was an ode to the skirt suit, and presented numerous looks that would be right at home at a courthouse wedding (à la Dua Lipa‘s bridal suit) while Celine offered up white ensembles like knee-length dresses and top-and-skirt sets for the coolest, most insouciant brides around.

You only have to look at some of the biggest celebrity weddings of the last year to get a read on the trends that have reigned supreme. The corseted bodices popularised by the likes of Vivienne Westwood made an appearance at Charli XCX‘s courthouse nuptials, while for her Sicilian ceremony, she tapped New York-based cool girl bridal designer Danielle Frankel to craft a semi-sheer bias-cut slip dress with an elongated train. Judging by the runways this season, Charli XCX was ahead of the curve.

Though there were a handful of dramatic gowns, overall, the silhouette was slimmer. Instead of shaping the body, the wedding dresses of next year will skim it, with breezy, second-skin fabrics like chiffon and silk taking precedence over weightier ones like crepe and Duchess satin. This shift nods to a burgeoning trend of personalisation in the bridal space — something we’re increasingly noticing with engagement rings too. Brides are opting for rings — and soon, dresses — that feel like an extension of what they might normally wear, rather than something that feels out of step with their everyday style.

With the dresses erring on the more refined side, designers were amping up the voltage with accessories. Statement earrings, like the hanging orbs at Celine, and sheer gloves, like those shown at Bora Aksu, were standout details that could be incorporated into any bridal look, regardless of how casual or spectacular you’re planning to go.

Below, our favourite bridal-ish looks from the fashion month runways, for your moodboard pleasure.
