9 Collagen Supplements To Add To Your Morning Smoothie

You are what you eat—or so the saying goes. And while we can all strive to get our five serves of veg and two fruits per day, as well as drinking ample water and making sure we’re eating enough protein to fuel our bodies, sometimes we need a little extra help.

Recently, health and beauty brands have upped the ante by creating super-charged beauty elixirs like liquid collagen, activated charcoal lemonade, clay shots, and now, ingestible powders designed to bolster your skin, hair and nails from the inside out.

Featuring concentrated ingredients that promise everything from firmer skin to renewed vitality, “inner beauty” supplements have been championed by wellness poster girls like Gwyneth Paltrow and Elle Macpherson. Experts are sceptical about the efficacy of said powders, but not completely dismissive.

“Some powders contain high doses of nutrients, antioxidants, and probiotics,” says Jessica Weiser, MD a dermatologist at the New York Dermatology Group. “I would prefer to have my patients ingest these important components from natural sources and fresh food as opposed to powder or other supplements.”

Dana James, a triple board certified nutritionist (who, full disclosure, offers her own version of a beauty powder) and functional medicine specialist, agrees. “The best option is to have a fresh green juice versus a powdered form. However, if that’s unavailable to you, then the powder form could be a good option,” she says.

These are the best collagen supplements in powder, gummy and tablet form to try if you’re curious.

What Does Ingestible Beauty Mean?

You might think of skincare as the products that you apply to your face and body. But the health of our skin, hair and nails is impacted by what we consume, too.

Ingestible beauty includes supplements and products that are designed to help boost your skin from the inside out. Generally, they mimic naturally occurring processes and include ingredients that you might not get entirely from your diet.
