If there’s one thing we can be thankful for, it’s that becoming parents has not dulled Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s appreciation for a good upscale red-sauce joint.
Since Rih gave birth to the couple’s first child back in May, their public appearances have been understandably few and far between. (Luckily for us, they frontloaded plenty of fashion-killer parents-to-be outfits to satisfy in the interim.) But at last, Rihanna and Rocky stepped out as newly minted Mom and Dad at one their favorite downtown Manhattan spots, Carbone, on Monday night—and, befitting his new title, Rocky wore shorts and golf shoes for the occasion.
A$AP being A$AP, he paired his knee-length shorts with a slouchy Raf Simons blazer and yet another gem from his curious collection of American memorabilia: a vintage graphic tee from an active bowling alley called Phantom Warrior Lanes, which is located on the Fort Worth Army base in Texas. To round out his “Who’s your caddy?” look, Rocky sported what appears to be a pair of vintage Oakley wingtip golf shoes—yes, as in the wraparound sunglasses kingpin Oakley, who apparently made golf shoes up until around 2015, though you can still try your luck on Ebay.
(Rih, for her part, wore a Jean Paul Gaultier bustier and matching leggings. No smoke there.)
Rocky has always been one for outré secondhand pieces, which is something he and his lady have bonded over. “I like when it’s just like a treasure hunt, right? It’s all about sourcing the originator or the creator. It takes it back to the old school analog days when you had to really search for information and there wasn’t Google,” he told GQ earlier this year. “I really like fun. It’s mostly about having fun with pieces nowadays… I’m just doing what I want.” And especially for new parents, cheers to that!
