Bestseller criticised over order discounts

WASHINGTON DC – Danish brand Bestseller has been criticsed by workers’ rights campaigners who claim the company demanded a 10 per cent discount from suppliers on some orders that were in production at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Worker Rights Consortium (WRC), which has maintained a tracker on brands’ behaviour towards their suppliers throughout the crisis, says the discount not only wiped out the suppliers’ profits but also some of their out-of-pocket production costs.

Bestseller admits it has “individually negotiated discounts” but insists it has supported its suppliers by paying all of its suppliers for orders, as well as continuing to place new orders during the coronavirus crisis.
