FALLS CHURCH – The Ecosystem Services Market Consortium (ESMC) has launched a new pilot project in the cotton sector, through which farmers will generate carbon credits on their land which they’ll be able to sell off depending on their sustainability credentials.
The Eco-Harvest initiative, covering Alabama, Arkansas, Texas and Tennessee, will look to incentivise the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices by familiarising farmers with carbon markets and the financial rewards available.
From the outset, ESMC says it’s targeting growers which implement conservation practices such as nutrient management, reduced tillage, and cover crops.
