While we know her for her razor-thin eyebrows, enviable ability to pull off an all-black smoky eye and status as Matty Healy’s better half, Gabbriette Bechtel is also something of a foodie. In fact, she went from obscure pop-star to viral It-girl when she started posting home cooking videos to TikTok during the pandemic.
Last week, Gabbriette was spotted at Italian restaurant Pellegrino 2000 in Surry Hills, incidentally a Sydney restaurant favoured by her fiancé’s former flame Taylor Swift. According to her Instagram stories, she started her meal with anchovies, roasted peppers and tomato vinaigrette and ended it with a prawn ravioli in a sage, lemon and butter sauce. She finished the meal with an affogato. We have no notes.
International celebrity sightings are lower on the ground here in the Southern Hemisphere so, when our favourite celebrities drop by our favourite restaurants, we get excited. But recently, we’ve been struck by a veritable hoard of It-girls and babygirls. Olivia Rodrigo was also spotted out in Sydney last week, dining at Totti’s in Bondi while touring in Australia.
With big-name celebs like Charli XCX making their way to Sydney, we’re keeping our eyes peeled on these hot spots. So, whether it’s Jacob Elordi or Olivia Rodrigo, these are the Sydney dining locations celebrities love.
Celebrity-Approved Restaurants Sydney Edition:
Gabbriette Bechtel: Teta’s Deli, Potts Point
Gabriette also stopped by Lebanese deli Teta’s on her tour of Sydney. She ordered a manoush (Lebanese flatbread) stuffed with chicken, halloumi, pickles, toum, and chilli—in her story post; she wrote, “one of the best things I’ve eaten in a while.” On her way out the door, she picked up a jar of Teta’s homemade pickles.
Olivia Rodrigo: Totti’s
Olivia Rodrigo is the ultimate girl’s girl, and we’re completely unsurprised she stopped by Totti’s for a girl dinner at Totti’s Bondi. Rodrigo posted from the venue glass of orange wine in one hand and an ice cream sandwich in the other. Dinner of champions. She wore a chic mini skirt, beige long-sleeve top and calf-length brown boots.
Taylor Swift & Sabrina Carpenter: Pellegrino 2000, Surry Hills
Taylor Swift and Gabbriette Bechtel share taste in men, so perhaps it’s unsurprising they share taste in restaurants. When Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter (Swift’s eras tour support act) were in Australia, they sent Surry Hills locals into a frenzy, dining at Pellegrino 2000 for dinner on a low-key Tuesday night. The pair apparently ate olives, focaccia, and some small pasta dishes and spent $620, with a $300 tip. Both musicians cut casual figures with Taylor in a brown mini skirt and black corset top and Sabrina in a red babydoll dress clutching a Louis Vuitton monogrammed purse.
Jacob Elordi: Paddington Markets, Paddington
He might not be an It-girl, but he is a baby girl and king of the Bottega handbag, Jacob Elordi caused pandemonium at Paddington Markets in 2023 when he stopped by for an orange juice and a bacon and egg roll.
Zendaya: Yellow, Potts Point & Sean’s, Bondi
If you’re wondering where Zendaya ate while she was in Sydney, we have your answer. She was seen at two iconic venues: Sean’s in Bondi and Yellow, Potts Point. Yellow is the city’s leading vegan fine-dining institution, known for its inventive way with vegetables and wine list.
Meanwhile, Sean’s is a laidback seafood restaurant that specialises in fresh, simple dishes straight from the farm and sea to the table.
Taylor Swift: Nobu, Barangaroo
After a day at the zoo, Swift headed to world-famous Japanese restaurant Nobu, which is conveniently housed at Crown Towers, where she’s rumoured to be staying. According to the Daily Telegraph, the Swift’s party dined in a private room, but plenty of laughter and even the sound of people singing ‘Happy Birthday’ could be heard ringing through the upmarket restaurant.
