In a metropolis as bustling as Sydney, it’s rare to find a quiet place of reprieve; a sense of retreat where the air is still and the light is soft. It’s a predicament Mr. Ralph Lauren, and so many creators, have faced many times in New York City. How do you escape the hustle and the hassle of Manhattan? The designer found his answer many years ago in the Hamptons; its quiet simplicity and sophistication rendering a sanctuary and source of inspiration to him.
“Even when I didn’t have a house, I’d drive out,” Mr. Lauren says in Ralph Lauren: A Way of Living, published by Rizzoli New York. “I wanted to feel the fresh air and wind … simplicity and peace.”
On May 7, the House brought a touch of said Hamptons-feel to Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Transporting guests to a farmstead in Terrey Hills, editors, clients and influencers alike were greeted with French Brut, a live band and an evening sunlight which gently pattered the horse stables, paddock and a vintage silver Mercedes Benz. Guests were all dressed in Ralph Lauren, too—some leaning into the Maison’s equestrian heritage, others its barefoot summer ease—all repping authentic American style.
As dusk hit, guests—which included Bambi Northwood-Blyth, Montana Cox, Nick Truelove, Madeleine Madden, Rebecca Harding and Saskia Wotton—were ushered inside the stables where a long table was dressed in classic Ralph Lauren wares: mini gold desk lamps, blooming hydrangeas, embroidered serviettes, and blue and white striped cashmere shawls which dressed the back of the seats. The menu was coastal dining at its best with lobster brioche with a lemon crème fraiche to start, and a salmon fillet with a spinach and herb crust as the main. Dessert reigned supreme with a spiced apple and vanilla gingerbread honey sponge served. The setting was, at its essence, a moment where time slowed, good conversation flowed, and style truly flourished. After all, the Hamptons just isn’t a place, Mr. Lauren said, it’s a state of mind.

New York’s southern fork has been woven into Mr. Lauren’s collections for more than 50 years. There was the breezy suiting of his Spring 1995 collection, with models in crisp white blazers and pearl earrings, and again in his Spring 2011 collection, when Mr. Lauren reimagined the Gatsby-era glamour through delicate lace, fringed gowns and precision-cut waistcoats. The brand’s Spring 2025 campaign perhaps though speaks more fluently to the Hamptons than ever before with crisp white blazers paired effortlessly with chino shorts and that barefoot sophistication meeting classic tailoring.
“The Hamptons is more than a place. It’s a natural world of endless blue skies, the ocean, green fields, and white fences, rusticity and elegance with a quality of light that drew artists here decades ago,” says Mr. Lauren. “It has been home, my refuge and always an inspiration.”
