Yes, and it’s fashion.

Fashion month may have officially kicked off stateside in New York City last night, but it seems like  a satellite event also took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The Chicago rapper Lil Durk arrived positively suited to watch the Lakers play the Bucks courtside, wearing a fuzzy balaclava, a handful of icy diamond chains, leather pants, Mad Max-style shin-guard motocross boots, and a gray mohair sweater that somehow seemed to feature an entire spliced skateboard interwoven into the chest.

Wow!…as in…how? The answer lies, as it so often does in the fashion world these days, in the name Jonathan Anderson, who presented the broken-skateboard-affixed sweater (plus those leather pants) in the Resort 2023 collection for his namesake brand JW Anderson this past summer. Depending on how closely you follow runway trends, you may know fashion’s king of weird by his recent balloon-centric designs for the Spanish luxury label Loewe, where he also serves as creative director.

Anyways, Durk was in Paris for men’s fashion week last June when Anderson showed this collection (which also included garments fastened with BMX handlebars, CDs, and tin food-can lids), though there doesn’t seem to be any record that he attended the JW show—which is to say, there is no Jared Leto love-at-first-sight moment of Durk seeing the sk8r sweater walk down the runway and thinking, “I need that.”

Either way, and to our delight, the sweater ended up with Durk so he could wear it while he watched the Bucks-Lakers game last night, at some point during which he ended up removing the balaclava. Naturally. Because that would have been too unwieldy.
