Lara Worthington’s Holiday Style Embraces 3 Of Summer’s Biggest Trends

When we hear the name Lara Worthington, it’s her sense of style that comes to mind first. It’s been years since she cemented her place as a fashion icon, and the frequency with which her vintage Jean Paul Gaultier, Ferragamo, and Miu Miu (the list goes on) looks pop up in our saved folders on Instagram are constant reminders of this status.

Most of the time, though, she personifies the effortless Aussie vibe that many of us strive for, with a flair for mixing high and low pieces that make every single look she pulls together look chic.

Worthington’s early adult years were well documented, with long blonde hair and a perenially fresh tan, but it’s the past decade that has really defined her signature look. A sharp, straight, chin-length bob and naturally luminous skin (probably thanks to her ambassadorship with Emma Lewisham) are the two things I always think of. But relaxed denim and t-shirts, strappy sandals, and vintage-style handbags definitely fill her feed (and my mood board) as well.

While we’ve been wrapped up in coats this winter, Worthington has done what many Aussies do at this time of year: seel warmth in the northern hemisphere and make the rest of us unbearably jealous. Just this week, she has been posting from Costa Rica, where she is vacationing with her family, but her early summer trips to Europe and Los Angeles have also confirmed a few trends that we suspected would be filling our wardrobes this summer. Ahead, we break down the top three.

Vintage Graphic T-Shirts

It appears that vintage graphic t-shirts are a mainstay in Worthington’s luggage. She often sports an oversized, ultra-soft cotton t-shirt on her Instagram, usually emblazoned with retro TV shows and movie references. Bartman (seen above) and Jaws (seen below) are just two examples, with the former featuring strategic razor-thin cuts across the body, and the latter with a large round cutout at the back and cinched sides. She also styles the t-shirts in a way that could be both casual and dinner-while-on-holidays appropriate, thanks to a smart black heel and either relaxed denim or frayed slip skirt.

Thong Heel

The thong heel is a shoe trend that has been bubbling under the surface for a few seasons. But when Phoebe Philo posted a photo of a pair to her Instagram in July 2024, we were all too happy to declare the trend officially co-signed. The elevated thong is typically characterised by a kitten heel (though not always) and was supremely popular in the ’90s. It fell out of favour over the years as people became wary of their toes hovering so close to the dirty pavement, but in 2024, you can consider thong heels officially back.

Unlike the more common styles that feature a stiletto kitten heel, Worthington opted for a black wedge style while on holiday in Costa Rica with her family in August. We suppose a wedge heel makes sense for a beach-side holiday, as there’s less chance of sinking into the sand on the walk to dinner.

Halter Neck Styles

If you haven’t caught on yet, the mere image of a halter top (or dress, as Worthington wears above) will start to make it quite clear that Y2K trends are not only favoured by Worthington but are also here to stay for yet another summer. Paired here with a patent burgundy Prada bag and her signature bob, the dress looks equally polished and relaxed, which is exactly how we want to look and feel through summer. We really need no further encouragement to embrace a breezy summer trend that encourages us to go bra-free on hot summer nights, but Worthington’s styling does so anyway.
