If you listen to Ride, the podcast hosted by comedian, writer, actor and now series creator Mary Beth Barone, alongside her best friend and fellow multi-hyphenate Benito Skinner, you would already be familiar with her dry-as-a-bone sense of humour, enthusiasm for political activism and particular brand of sarcasm. Oh, and her penchant for archival fashion.
At least two out of those four things will be front and centre in her just-announced sitcom, Hard Feelings, which Deadline reports was secured by Hulu in a bidding war and is being fast-tracked for development. Production company A24 is on board to executive produce it, alongside Barone, Skinner and Mackenzie Roussos of E360, a Hollywood production company, with Scott King hopping on board as its showrunner.
The series will star Barone as the lead, playing Claire Ambrose, an in-demand New York City dating consultant who, despite guiding her clients away from men who lack emotional intelligence, finds herself in romantic entanglements with them anyway. Knowing Barone, there’ll be wink-wink references to her own dating life, which she often drops breadcrumbs of in Ride and her stand-up shows, like her recent Netflix special, Galaxy Brain, which cracked the platform’s top 10 during its first week of release in July.
As far as the rest of the cast goes, the only member announced thus far is Skinner, but Barone and Skinner run in pretty starry circles (Charli XCX was the executive music producer and had a cameo on Overcompensating, as did Kaia Gerber, Megan Fox and Bowen Yang), so one could assume the cast will be similarly star-studded.
Is There A Release Date For Hard Feelings?
As it stands, there’s no release date as of yet, but Ride devotees will undoubtedly be the first to hear about it. We’re already obsessed (bleep it).
