How traditional hot tools work
Changing hair texture—adding curls, straightening, smoothing frizz—requires temporarily breaking and resetting the hydrogen bonds in your hair using water or heat. Traditional hairstyling tools use very high temperatures to break and reset these bonds to create styles and dry hair. The coolest feature of the Dyson Airwrap™ multi-styler is the innovative use of the aerodynamic phenomenon called the Coanda effect. Powered by Dyson’s digital V9 motor, the Coanda airflow dries, curls, shapes and smooths hair without extreme heat. Think of it this way, Robb says: when you’re pouring water out of a glass and the fluid dribbles down the side, it’s because that fluid wants to attach to that surface. The same happens with hair and the Airwrap—strands are attracted to the curvature of the barrel. The result is smooth, shiny locks without fly-aways.

The company also conducts extensive user trials to see how people respond to the technology as it’s being developed.
A few other improvements also make the latest model of the Dyson Airwrap™ multi-styler a must-have. The new brush attachments automatically change direction when you switch sides of your head, so their airflow always projects downwards to align with your hair cuticle and reduce frizz.
