VIENNA – A new study has outlined the different manufacturing scenarios required to ensure the production of financially viable, bio-based polyester (bio-PET), recycled polyester (r-PET) and their blends.

The primary aim of the research at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna was to determine which of bio-PET, r-PET or their blends, could achieve higher profitability and net present value (NPV) – the difference between the present value of cash inflow and the present value of cash outflow over a period of time – as well as carbon neutrality in the production of sustainable polyester fibres.
