These Fashion-Forward Rain Boots Are Perfect For Festival Season

The weather in Australia is getting warmer and we’re looking forward to summer dressing, which in Australia, ironically, often involves a rain boot. If there’s one thing we know about the sunny country, it’s that we’re prone to unpredictable weather conditions thanks to our gloriously tropical climate. And, with festivals like Laneway (hi Charli XCX) and Meredith approaching, we’re getting our outfits prepared. The waterproof boot is an essential part of our planning. Looking for styling tips? Bookmark Kate Moss who made the rain boot a festival essential during her indie sleaze zenith when she got down in the muck at Glastonbury 2005. Since then, rain boots have been a wet-weather festival staple.

And, of course, in day-to-day life, going about your business in torrential rain wearing your spring sandals or thong heels is not ideal. Essentially, whatever our summer plans we’re all looking for tropical weather-friendly rain boots that won’t ruin our outfits. Fortunately for us chic rain boots are currently everywhere.

So, here are the pairs the ELLE team will be wearing year-round.

Chloe, Betty Rubber Ankle Boot

from $900.00 at Net-A-Porter

The Betty boots from Chloe are so chic we would wear them rain, hail or sizzling sunshine. Made of hardy ecru rubber, they feature a chunky 2-inch heel. Uber-flattering we see them paired with a mini skirt or summer dress. They’re also available in black, but there’s something sweetly 60s about the white we’re drawn to.

from $ 139.95 at The Iconic

The Amelia boot is available in six shades, but we love the yellow for adding a cheerful pop of colour to an all-black outfit. With a subtle 30mm heel, they provide just enough elevation, and with soft neoprene lining, they’re incredibly comfortable.

from $1000.00 at Canada Goose

Canada Goose are masters of outerwear and their Vancouver Rain Boot are specifically designed for long days in all conditions. Made of hyper-flexible materials, they won’t chafe on long days and feature super grippy outsoles (say goodbye to slipping and sliding on wet pavement).

A common complaint about rainboots is that they can be unsupportive when worn all day. Canada Goose has addressed this problem: each pair of boots comes with custom footbeds for the arch support you need. They also have moisture-wicking properties that will keep your feet dry while you’re sweating it out in summer—a true dream for trans-seasonal stormy weather.

from $59.25 (usually $79.00) at The Iconic

These affordable Australian boots are tough and chic and will trigger nostalgia for anyone who was a fan of the iconic Acne Pistol Boot. They’re incredibly durable, with a high-density EVA blend outsole, and their sheepskin lining will keep your feet warm in winter but cool in summer. What more could we ask for?

We cannot (and shall not!) talk about chic rainboots for women without touching on the iconic Hunter Boot. Kate Moss turned the Hunter Boot from a boring British staple to a summer festival must-have when she got down in the muck at Glastonbury 2005 with Libertine’s frontman Pete Docherty.

In a mini sparkling gold dress, low-slung boho belt and mud-spattered hunters, she made the summer Wellington a fashion staple. Hats off to our queen, and hats off to this incredibly chic boot. We’ll be seeing it this summer.
