Unpacking Betsy Blue’s Claims Tammy Hembrow Copied Her Wedding

Influencer Tammy Hembrow got married to partner and former Love Island Australia Matt Zukowski last week in a luxe ceremony that drew plenty of media attention – from her off-the-rack Vera Wang wedding dress to her reality tv star-packed guest list.

But British actor and influencer Betsy-Blue wasn’t among her well-wishers.

Blue took to social media in a now-deleted post to accuse Hembrow of copying her wedding. Or, specifically, her wedding cake.

She posted a photo of Hembrow cutting her wedding cake to Instagram stories with the caption, “I wish people would get their own imagination sometimes.”

Betsy-Blue is clearly proud of her cake. It is the one pinned post on her Instagram grid, and it does look a lot like Hembrow’s cake. Namely, they’re both a thousand feet tall, white and covered in bows. Despite the damning similarities, Blue didn’t find much support for her allegations online.

How Did The Internet React To Betsy Blue’s Accusations

Not kindly. Hembrow has 17 million followers on Instagram, and unsurprisingly, her fans caught the post and expressed their disdain. “God she acts like she’s the only one that’s ever had a large cake and used a chair to cut it,” one person wrote. “Does she mean the tiered cake that has been around for centuries or the chair? What was she meant to stand on? Her husband?” another wrote.

Weddings are great Instagram fodder, and for influencers, they’re big business. Even normies with a couple of hundred followers roll their snaps out for anywhere from 12 months to eternity (whether their 257 followers like it or not) and spend 12 months to several years planning them. It checks out we feel protective of the effort and money we pour into them. But ultimately, weddings are by their nature a convention, and accusing someone of stealing your wedding cake is a little bit like accusing them of also wearing a white dress

It seems like even Betsy Blue felt her post was a reach. She deleted the post and then posted a follow-up that read: “When you spend the entire day thinking something was on your close friends,” with an upside-down smiley face—a move that bumped her from Mean Girl to extremely relatable, if bitter, queen in our eyes.

Tammy Hembrow has not responded to cake-gate, but we’re staying tuned.
