Hudson Williams is out of the cabin and back on our screens in Yaga today. Fans looking forward to the second season of Heated Rivalry will have something to tide them over with the first two episodes of Williams’ steamy new supernatural thriller, which will be officially released on Binge and Foxtel at 6:00 pm AEDT today, October 23.
Yaga is a feminist reimagining of the centuries-old Slavic witch legend Baba Yaga. The by-all-reports very raunchy, modern fairytale is created by Kat Sandler, who adapted the eight-part series from her acclaimed 2019 play of the same name. The series follows Rapp (Noah Reid of Schitt’s Creek) as a private investigator probing the suspicious death of spoiled 22-year-old heir Henry (Hudson Williams), the bratty scion of a fish processing magnate on a Canadian island. The cast also includes Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) as the mysterious professor Katherine and Clark Backo as local detective Carson.
If Williams fans are worried they won’t get enough of him on account of his character being deceased, never fear. He also plays Henry’s dopey doppelgänger housemate, Logan Casey, who wanders around wearing a Canadian tuxedo (with nothing underneath). What more could we ask for? Below, find everything you need to know about Yaga.

What Is Yaga About?
At its roots, Yaga draws inspiration from the legendary Russian folklore figure Baba Yaga, repackaging her as a complex feminist character. In original folklore, the formidable crutch-riding witch lived in a hut on chicken legs and was traditionally cast as a child-eating monster who tested lost wanderers — appearing in iconic children’s stories like Tashi and the Baba Yaga (2006) to adult pop culture like John Wick. The ancient myths carried moral warnings about respecting boundaries, confronting the unknown and, of course, the societal fear of powerful older women.
Kat Sandler’s television adaptation explores the folklore in a contemporary setting: a chilly Canadian fishing town where an elite university clashes with blue-collar locals.
When private investigator Rapp arrives to look into the demise of fishery heir Henry Park, he collides with a labyrinth of ancient magic, peculiar locals and community secrets. He enlists the help of Carson (Clark Backo) and seductive, sharp-tongued professor of osteology (someone who studies the structure and function of bones) Katherine (Carrie-Anne Moss), all the while getting tangled up with Logan (Williams). Creator Kat Sandler described the tone to Entertainment Weekly: “It’s horny. It’s not tastefully sexy. It’s feral, and it knows what it is.”
The series blends neo-gothic crime procedurals with erotic supernatural thriller elements—making it the ultimate binge-watch just in time for Halloween.
