Kylie Minogue is taking the stage (field?) as the headline pre-show performer at the 2026 AFL Grand Final on Saturday, September 26 and the pop girls are beside themselves, us included. Kicking off 1:30pm AEST in Melbourne, Minogue’s performance will take place before the final game between the Freemantle Dockers and Brisbane Lions kicks off at 2:30pm AEST and will be broadcast on Channel 7 and live-streamed on 7Plus.
Just over a year after Australia’s sweetheart wrapped her Tension Tour, Minogue is returning to the stage to perform what we can only assume will be a greatest hits extravaganza — gold hot pants optional but encouraged. It marks the first time in four years an Australian artist has opened the match, with past performers reading like a SoFresh! album from 2015: Snoop Dogg in 2025; Katy Perry in 2024; KISS in 2023; and Robbie Williams in 2022.
“They’re getting a show,” Minogue told 7News Melbourne. “They’re getting a Melbourne girl performing in her hometown, which is wild to me.” One of Minogue’s earliest performances as a singer was at a Fitzroy football club benefit when she was 18 years old, so you might say her returning to her AFL roots is something of a full-circle moment. Minogue will be joined by fellow Australian musicians, G Flip, Mike Brady and Michael Paynter, as part of the pre-show entertainment.
