LONDON – Boohoo Group executive chairman Mahmud Kamani has told MPs that he really was “shocked and appalled” by allegations of illegally low pay and poor conditions in the company’s Leicester supply factories – despite having sourced from the city for more than a quarter of a century.
It came as Kamani, along with Boohoo’s responsible sourcing and product operations director Andrew Reaney and commercial director Kelly Byrne, gave evidence to the UK government’s Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) investigation into fast fashion.
Kamani told EAC chairman Philip Dunne how he had launched Boohoo in 2006 with two staff and subsequently transformed it into a company with 8,000 employees which sold garments worldwide.
