Lace-Trimmed Shorts Aren’t Going Anywhere Yet

Since Hailey Bieber, Rosé, Zoe Kravitz, and Charli XCX fronted the media wall ahead of Saint Laurent’s spring/summer 2026 show at Paris Fashion Week, lace shorts have been an international obsession.

The silk and lace romper worn by Rosé, and the lingerie-like lace-trimmed shorts peeking out from underneath Hailey and Charli’s windbreakers, that really made me pay attention.

Lingerie has long been worn as outerwear, but in recent years, it has extended to many different corners of our wardrobes. Lace maxi skirts with sequined embellishments are routinely styled underneath blazers for evening events, and bloomers have been elevated from the boudoir to music-festival-wear. And nowhere was this more evident than at Isabel Marant’s autumn/winter 2025 show.

The collection included black lace stockings styled with a crocheted white dress, and lace trimmed shorts styled with blazers, blouses, and crossbody bags. The styling firmly pulled lace-trimmed shorts out of the bedroom and showed how someone commuting in the city might like to wear the item. Kate Moss attending the show in a black pair, along with stockings, a leather motorcycle jacket and studded boots only underscored this further.

Since then, lacy shorts have been embraced fully by stylish women in every major city around the world, and the versatility of the style has proved their endurance. Paired with oversized jackets, sheer tights and kitten heels in winter, or a simple tee and sandals in summer, this wardrobe staple has surprising trans-seasonal appeal.

More than a year on from the Isabel Marant show, lace trimmed shorts have officially become a staple of the street style set, and we plan to wear a pair this season styled with every footwear option — from loafers to boots, and of course, our favourite thong heels.

As a trend, lace shorts are an appropriate continuation from slip dresses we’ve seen everywhere in the 2020s. Silky lace-trimmed slips, camisoles, and skirts have been spotted on just about every woman gallivanting through the summer months. Worn over pants and under slouchy tops, lace-trimmed dresses with asymmetrical hems in particular (you know the ones) have dominated street style.

Shop Lace Shorts for Summer 2026

Today, the lace shorts trend has evolved to incorporate longer, work-appropriate styles. Combining lingerie lace with a relaxed Bermuda form, the trend has shown it can adapt, and will remain in our wardrobes well into 2027. I certainly didn’t need any further encouragement to slip on a pair of slinky shorts this season, but we have now nudged them up our wish lists.
