Lady Gaga’s New ‘Disease’ Music Video Is Full Of Ghoul-Core Halloween Beauty Inspiration

For those of us stuck on ideas for Halloween costumes, Lady Gaga, queen of ghoulish glamour and Mother Monster, has come to the rescue with her new music video ‘Disease’.

The music video, directed by Tanu Muiño, is for the lead single on her upcoming album LG7. It’s dropped just in time for Halloween and Haus Labs founder Gaga has gone ghoul-core serving a series of macabre looks.

The video features Gaga confronting a different version of herself (each more horrifying than the next) on a suburban street. LG7 is being heralded as a comeback for Gaga who released her last album, ‘Chromatica’ in 2020 and has been quiet since. The video and album deal with dark themes from the recently-engaged singer’s own life.

“I think a lot about the relationship I have with my own inner demons,” Gaga told W Magazine about the inspiration behind the video. “It’s never been easy for me to face how I get seduced by chaos and turmoil. It makes me feel claustrophobic.”

In ‘Disease’, makeup is key to depicting these inner demons. From greasy-haired and silver-lidded succubi to BDSM-kitted-out vampires, Gaga’s long-time makeup artist Sarah Tanno used Haus Labs products – and plenty of fake blood – to create the beautiful looks.

‘Disease’ features two shimmering eye looks: a silver smoky eye in one of the final scenes and a green gold look in a dungeon scene in which Gaga struggles with her inner demons. The first two shadows in the Master Metals palette are perfect for recreating both looks. Mixed with water, each shadow transforms into an opaque foil-effect liquid. Apply with a brush or fingers.

Plenty of spectral cool tones and sooty blacks are used for the eye looks in ‘Disease’, and this affordable palette from Morphe recreates the looks with a mix of stormy gunmetal greys, soft shimmers, and, of course, pitch black. Mix the grey and black to carve out your silver smoky eye.

A pitch-black creamy kohl pencil is essential for creating Gaga’s grimy gothic beauty looks and legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath nailed the asphalt-black intensity of this liner. Apply to the waterline and along the lid, then smudge with a blending brush.
