Michelle Williams made a rare statement about her late ex-boyfriend, actor Heath Ledger. On Monday, the actress appeared on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, calling the Dark Knight star "so special."
“I knew him a little bit when he was getting sober, and I don’t know that I’ve ever fallen in love with somebody so quickly,” Shepard began, adding that he felt "obligated to say [he] knew" Ledger.
"This is one of the most special boys I've ever met," Shepard continued. "I can feel the weight of the world on him in a very special way that kind of broke my heart."

Ledger, who dated Williams from 2004 to 2007, passed away just months after their breakup due to a drug overdose.
"I was very, very sad," Shepard added. "I thought he was just so special."
"So special," Williams echoed. "Thank God there's Matilda," she went on, referencing her 19-year-old daughter with Ledger. Williams also lauded her ex's "incredible sensitivity."

Williams and Ledger met on the set of Brokeback Mountain and soon began dating. They welcomed their only child, Matilda, in October 2005.
Earlier this month, the Dying for Sex star stopped by NPR's "Fresh Air" podcast and spoke about how she was able to get through losing Ledger. While raising her daughter as a single mom, Williams said she leaned on the closest people in her life to help her through this tough time.
That support group consisted of her sister, friends of friends, and actor Jeremy Strong. After Ledger died, she said her house got a lot of foot traffic. "That was the period of time in my life when there were multiple people going in and out of that house," Williams explained. She said that Strong came up with the idea to call the house "Fort Awesome."
"And it was like Pippi Longstocking or something, something that you imagine as a child, you imagine this place where you could go and you could make some of the rules and you would be together and there would be, it would be full of fun and play and ideas and personalities and acceptance and love," the Oscar-nominated actress said. "And he had sort of imagined this place as a child that his child mind would call 'Fort Awesome.'"
