Phoebe Bridgers Swapped Her Red Carpet Uniform For An Elevated Take On The Naked Dress At Venice

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt from the Venice Film Festival red carpet, it’s that the naked dress isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. But during her festival debut Phoebe Bridgers made one of the red carpet’s most enduring trends feel entirely her own.

The 32-year-old musician arrived at the world premiere of Primetime on September 5 wearing a sheer grey, Alexander McQueen gown for the house’s Fall 2026 collection. Wispy, romantic and just a little bit gothic, the look felt perfectly at home on Bridgers, whose wardrobe has long leaned towards skeleton motifs, sharp suiting and an almost exclusively monochromatic palette.

Bridgers’ floor-length gown came courtesy of Alexander McQueen’s Fall 2026 ready-to-wear collection. Rendered in a smokey grey, it featured billowing sleeves, delicate ruffles and rouching throughout the bodice, before falling into a completely sheer skirt. Floral lace embroidery ran vertically down the gown before spreading across its hem and train, with matching underwear visible underneath.

She kept the rest of the styling relatively pared back, pairing the dress with pointed grey pumps, silver jewellery and drop earrings, while her platinum blonde hair was swept into a loose updo with pieces left framing her face.

Classically, naked dressing has been about a bombshell silhouette but Bridgers’ take was more about ethereal romance. Considering this is the woman who made skeleton onesies red-carpet appropriate, that slightly spectral aesthetic feels about right and we can see ourselves copying her this spring.

Bridgers may be no stranger to a red carpet but her appearance in Venice marks a major first for the Grammy-winning musician: her feature film acting debut.

Bridgers stars in A24’s Primetime, a psychological thriller inspired by the story behind NBC’s To Catch a Predator. She plays Del Harvey, a young decoy involved in the television sting operation, opposite Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, with Merritt Weaver and Skyler Gisondo also joining the cast.

It’s a significant departure for Bridgers, who has spent much of the past-decade building one of the most distinctive careers in indie music, both as a solo artist and as one third of boygenius alongside Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker.

And her first trip to Venice certainly didn’t go unnoticed. Following the film’s world premiere, Primetime, reportedly received a seven-minute standing ovation, with members of the audience chanting Bridgers’ name.

Between making her acting debut and delivering one of the festival’s most memorable red carpet looks, Bridgers’ first Venice Film Festival has made her one to watch.
