Nothing seems hotter than a book adaptation right now. Australian actor (and ELLE Man of the Year) Josh Heuston has snagged the leading role in another book adaptation: F1 romance Throttled. Heuston is quickly becoming a master of the book adaptation. He was most recently on our screens in Off Campus, as Justin Kohl, the tattooed bad boy and object of Hannah Well’s affection. For those who were crushed he wouldn’t be returning for season 2 this news will come as a pleasant surprise.

As per Deadline, Lauren Asher’s bestselling novel Throttled has officially been given the green light by Amazon MGM Studios to become a feature film. Honestly, it’s about time we had another steamy sports romance to look forward to.

What Is Throttled About?

Published in 2020, Throttled follows the forbidden romance between rising Formula 1 driver Noah Slade and Maya Alatorre, the sister of his fiercest rival on the track.

When Maya joins her brother as he travels the world competing for the championship, she promises herself she’ll stay away from Noah. Naturally, that doesn’t go according to plan. As the pair come to terms with their feelings for each other, they also become painfully aware that acting on their attraction could have consequences both on and off the circuit.

The novel is the first instalment in Asher’s Dirty Air series, which spans four interconnected romances: Throttled, Collided, Wrecked and Redeemed. If Goodreads is anything to go by, the series has developed a devoted following, many of whom are likely cheering at the thought of Noah and Maya’s relationship being translated to the big screen.

“Please go start this series now, it has truly taken over my entire life,” reads one five-star review. “Noah Slade has my entire heart 1000% sure. I honestly never thought I would like him this much but oh I was so wrong.”

Another reviewer got straight to the point, writing: “Omw to ask my brother to become a f1 driver so I can travel the world with him and meet Noah Slade. BRB.”

Who Will Josh Heuston Play In Throttled?

Heuston will step into the role of Noah Slade, an ambitious young racing driver whose rivalry with Maya’s brother makes their romance particularly complicated.

The Western Sydney actor previously played musician Justin Kohl in Off Campus, making Throttled his second major book-to-screen project with Amazon. Heuston appears to have a penchant for sports romances, and we’re certainly not complaining.

While Justin may not have been the man Hannah ultimately chose in Off Campus, Heuston quickly became the standout among viewers. Given how beloved he was in the series, it’s difficult to imagine fans not being equally invest in his turn as Noah.

Heuston kept his own reaction to the casting news characteristically brief, sharing a post on Instagram with the words: “Get in the car.”

As for who will play Maya, Amazon MGM Studios is yet to make an announcement.

What Do We Know About The Throttled Film?

Nzingha Stewart, whose previous credits include Daisy Jones & The Six, the Prime Video series based on Taylor Jenkins Reid’s bestselling novel will be directing the series. Stewart’s involvement is particularly promising. Her work on Daisy Jones & The Six earned Emmy, Directors Guild of America and Producers Guild of America nominations and proved she knows her way around adapting a book with an intensely devoted fanbase.

The screenplay will be written by Melissa Osborne, who also worked on another popular romance adaptation: My Fault, London.

Elizabeth Banks and Mez Handelman will produce the film through Brownstone Productions. Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay of Ethea Entertainment will also produce alongside Garrett Grant, while Asher and Alison Small are attached as executive producers.

For Asher, the most exciting part will be seeing the central romance come to life.

“I’m most excited to see Noah and Maya’s romance unfold while exploring the Dirty Air world and its characters,” Asher told People. “As both a motorsports fan and an avid romance reader who loves watching book adaptations, I’m thrilled that there will be a romance movie set in the racing world. I think fans of the series will be just as excited as me when they see some of my favourite scenes from the book playing out on the screen.”

She added that fans can expect to recognise some of her own favourite moments from the novel when the story reaches the screen.

When Will Throttled Be Released In Australia

A release date for Throttled has not yet been announced, and Amazon MGM Studios has not confirmed when filming will begin.

With Heuston currently the only cast member revealed, it appears the project is still in the early stages. There is also no word yet on whether the remaining books in the Dirty Air series could receive adaptations of their own.
