The F1 WAG Engagement Rings Are Almost As Impressive As The Race Cars

When sports stars bend the knee, they tend to do so in extravagant style, and Formula 1 drivers are no different. The engagement rings of the F1 WAGs — wives and girlfriends, or, in this case, wives and fiancées — are something to behold.

The women of Formula 1 have turned paddock dressing into high art, and they’ve also taken the celebrity engagement announcement to dizzying heights. Indeed, sometimes the carat weights present in their glittering betrothal announcements are so dizzying they distract us from binge-watching Drive to Survive.

From Alexandra Saint Mleux’s $500,000-plus oval solitaire to Carmen Montero Mundt’s rare yellow diamond, which experts have valued at as much as $1.9 million, there is plenty to ogle. Because we take celebrity engagement-journalism seriously, we’ve taken a deep dive on the engagement rings of the F1, ranking them from most extravagant to (comparatively) modest. It’s all in a day’s work.

George Russell And Carmen Montero Mundt

Cut: Fancy yellow oval diamond with white side stones
Carat: Estimated between 5 and 10 carats
Estimated value: Approximately AU$1.9 million
Engaged: August 2026
F1 status: Mercedes — 2nd in the 2026 Drivers’ Championship, 183 points

George Russell may not quite have entered Cristiano Ronaldo territory — Georgina Rodríguez’s engagement diamond was the size of a small apricot — he has made a respectable attempt.

Russell proposed to his girlfriend of six years, Carmen Montero Mundt, during Formula 1’s August summer break. The pair met in London in 2020 after being introduced by a mutual friend, and Russell later revealed that he spent around six months working on the ring in secret before the proposal.

And it shows. At its centre is a dazzling yellow oval-cut diamond flanked by white side stones. Cushla Whiting, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Cushla Whiting, told ELLE Australia that the centre diamond appears to be around five to six carats and may be a Fancy Intense or Fancy Vivid yellow.

“Highly saturated Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid yellow diamonds are rarer and cost more than colourless (D-F coloured) diamonds of the same size and clarity,” Whiting explains. She adds that the ring could feature a two-tone setting, with yellow gold surrounding the centre diamond and a platinum shank.

Other experts have placed the stone closer to eight to 10 carats, which explains the rather dizzying variation in price estimates. Nilesh Rakholia, founder of Abelini, told ELLE that if the diamond is natural and falls into the higher GIA colour grades, the ring could approach £750,000 to £1 million — around AU$1.9 million at the estimate used when ELLE first reported on it.

As of August 28, Russell is also enjoying a particularly good year professionally: he sits second in the Drivers’ Championship for Mercedes, on 183 points.

Charles Leclerc And Alexandra Saint Mleux

Carat: More than 5 carats, estimated
Estimated value: More than AU$500,000
Engaged: November 2025
Married: February 2026
F1 status: Ferrari — 5th in the 2026 Drivers’ Championship, 155 points

Formula 1’s golden couple became engaged in November 2025, after first being linked in 2023 and making one of their earliest public appearances together at Wimbledon that July. Leclerc enlisted their dachshund Leo for the proposal, fitting him with a tag asking Saint Mleux, “Dad wants to marry you!” Spoiler: she said yes.

They didn’t remain fiancés for long. On February 28, 2026, the couple quietly married in a civil ceremony in Monaco before driving through Monte Carlo in a vintage Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa.

As you’d assume, the proposal involved a spaceship-sized diamond. Toya, founder of Lindelli Jewellery, previously told ELLE Australia that Saint Mleux’s ring is a classic oval-cut solitaire in a slim prong setting with a delicate pavé diamond band.

Based on its proportions, Toya estimated the centre diamond at more than five carats, with a value of more than AU$500,000 for a high-quality natural stone. “It offers significant presence while staying in proportion with Saint Mleux’s slender hand,” she said.

Since their wedding, the Le Clercs have been busy touring photogenic European summer destinations, if Alexandre’s Instagram is to be believed.

Carat: Reported estimate of 5–10 carats
Estimated value: Reported estimate of AU $270,000
Engaged: January 2026
F1 status: Williams — 17th in the 2026 Drivers’ Championship, 5 points

Alex Albon and professional golfer Lily Muni He have one of the better F1 meet-cutes. She became interested in Formula 1 after watching Drive to Survive and connected with Albon on social media in 2019; Albon, meanwhile, had developed an interest in golf. Their first proper meeting involved — naturally — playing a round together in Los Angeles after the US Grand Prix.

More than six years later, Albon proposed during the 2025–26 winter break. The couple announced their engagement on January 16 with a Polaroid with Albon’s understated caption, “I guess we’re stuck with each other now.” Muni He later revealed that the proposal in Big Sur came as a genuine surprise.  “No [I didn’t expect it]. He did a really good job,” the professional golfer explained during an interview. PIF Saudi Ladies International at Riyadh Golf Club. “I was a bit surprised; my nails were not done, but not awful either, so it worked out,” she said.

He is one of the more intriguing WAGs. As well as being a pro golfer, she has a penchant for romantacy and her ring is fittingly unique. Designed by Sarah Ysabel Narici for DYNE it features a snaking gold band inlaid with emeralds and an octagonal cut diamond of between 5 and 10 carats and an estimated price of AU $270,000.

Carat: Not publicly disclosed
Cost: Not publicly disclosed
Engaged: September 2020
Married: June 2021
F1 status: Audi — 15th in the 2026 Drivers’ Championship, 6 points

Nico Hülkenberg and Lithuanian designer Egle Ruskyte have been together for roughly a decade, having reportedly met through friends around 2015.

Hülkenberg proposed during a romantic trip to Venice in September 2020, with Ruskyte announcing the news on Instagram with the caption, “Mrs and Mr Hülkenbergs to be.” They married in an intimate Monaco ceremony the following year and later staged a larger second celebration. Sadly, very little is known about Egle’s engagement ring. The designer posted the band from a distance in her Instagram announcement, and there has been no investigation into it since. It looks to us like a simple, round cut diamond of about 2 carats on a fine band.

Hülkenberg now drives for Audi and is 15th in the 2026 standings with six points.

Sergio Pérez And Carola Martínez

Cost: Not publicly disclosed
Engaged: August 2017
Married: June 2018
F1 status: Cadillac — 23rd in the 2026 Drivers’ Championship, 0 points

Sergio “Checo” Pérez and Carola Martínez did not waste time on the way to the altar. The couple went public with their relationship in early 2017, became engaged that August and welcomed their first child, Sergio Jr., in December. They married in Guadalajara on June 1, 2018.

Martínez announced their engagement herself, posting photographs of the pair and proudly flashing a substantial diamond ring. But, the couple’s engagement predates the F1 WAG trend for flashing a ring aggressively on Instagram so we’re hazy on the diamond’s exact specifications. Sometimes a little mystery is all the more alluring.

Pérez is back on the Formula 1 grid with Cadillac in 2026. As of August 28, he is 23rd in the championship and yet to score a point in Cadillac’s debut season.
