The Sad Reason Zac And Maya From ‘Farmer Wants A Wife’ Have Called It Quits

Well, there are officially no survivors from Farmer Wants a Wife season 16. Couples, that is. After falling for each other on Season 16 of Farmer Wants A Wife, Zac Kuiper, the apple farmer from South Australia, and Maya Bini, the medical receptionist from Melbourne, have announced they have officially gone their separate ways.

In a joint Instagram post, Maya and Zac wrote that though they shared a strong connection from the start, “Navigating our relationship while being long-distance proved to be no easy journey.” They continued, “The timing for us to make that next move wasn’t right, and unfortunately, this shifted the relationship. We have therefore decided to go our separate ways.”

Maya and Zac were one of the show’s strongest couples from the jump and Season 16’s only success story. Despite Maya experiencing her own “heated rivalry” with the show’s villain Miranda Chopping, she prevailed. So, one can only imagine Miranda’s glee when hearing the news of their relationship’s demise (do we all remember when she called Maya “desperate” for wanting to speak to her prospective boyfriend?). Unlike the other couples this season, Zac and Maya weathered the Farmer Wants A Wife storm with relative ease, from contentious double dates to trying to look good in a harness while rock climbing (a nailbiting three-way date if ever there was one) and the unexpected intrusion of another eligible bachelorette hand-selected by Zac’s mother.

The pair was still together at the Farmer Wants A Wife reunion, which aired on August 2, revealing in their Instagram caption that they “became each other’s best friends, which led us into an amazing relationship.” But anyone who has Facetimed their way through a long-distance relationship can attest to how difficult it can be to keep the spark alive, and sadly, this seemed to be the cause of Zac and Maya’s downfall.

Why Did Zac And Maya Break Up?

According to their joint Instagram post, it all came down to the fact that Zac lived on his family’s apple orchard in South Australia while Maya was settled in Melbourne. It might be barely an hour and a half on the plane, but there are only so many flights you can take when you’re also trying to learn the ropes of the family business, and the back-and-forth proved too much for the pair. Speaking to Chattr, Maya revealed, “We would try and see each other twice a month. We racked up those velocity points!”

They continued, explaining that though they cherished their time together, having to leave each other twice a month became emotionally draining. Zac saying, “I think I cried every single time at the airport” (is it possible Maya got the ick?). Zac and Maya also noted that the pressure on their relationship mounted once the show aired. “Everybody has their opinion, which is so fair enough, because people were following us, but it’s also like, we’re only human,” Maya said.

Where Are Zac And Maya Now?

Needless to say, Zac is still on his family farm in South Australia, and Maya remains in Melbourne, but despite the breakup, the pair are still cordial. “[We] ended on really great terms so that’s a great tick,” Zac said. In their post, they also wrote that they “still have an immense amount of respect for each other and definitely zero bad blood,” so it sounds like they’re handling the split amicably. Here’s hoping we see one of them again — perhaps on The Bachelor?
