If Paris is home to most of the heavy hitters during fashion month, Milan is nipping at its heels. It might not have Chanel and Dior, but it has Prada, Gucci and Bottega Veneta. It also has a little weirdness, an affinity for quirk, maybe even some ugliness — which also happens to be what makes Milan Fashion Week (arguably) the most interesting of the lot.
Prada started the week how it normally does — by getting people talking — but its spring/summer 2027 collection elicited less division than it normally does. Masters of provocation, Miuccia Prada and her collaborator, Raf Simons know how to ignite debates around good taste and bad, beauty and ugliness, but on the whole, its skirt-centric show garnered emphatically positive responses. Elsewhere, one of the week’s most exciting new(ish) creative directors, Simone Bellotti kept us on our toes at Jil Sander, while Meryll Rogge proved indisputably why she is the woman for the job at Marni.

Prada
A skirt is a skirt is a skirt. Or so you might have thought before observing Prada’s ode to it on their spring/summer 2027 runway. Titled ‘The Skirt,’ the show celebrated Mrs. Prada’s favourite garment across 63 different versions, all around knee-length. Some were fastened with embellished Velcro, some were sheer, others were printed, pleated or made from cotton treated to look like leather. Pairing them with teeny tops (bralettes, bustiers and what looked like backpack straps) in some instances and oversized jackets and knits in others, the show made a case for the skirt’s versatility, sensibility and sex appeal.
Fendi
After almost a decade at Dior, it feels like Maria Grazia Chiuri has found her home at Fendi. After her debut collection for autumn/winter 2026 leant heavily on black, her spring/summer presentation had more levity to it. Earthy colours like rose pink, powder blue and terracotta spliced through Chiuri’s beloved black, and overall, the collection had an almost bohemian quality to it: diaphanous lace-trimmed slips; skirts and pants strung with shimmering fringe; and open-knit dresses that wouldn’t have been out of place at Woodstock.
Jil Sander
About halfway through Simone Bellotti’s presentation for Jil Sander, there was a vibe shift. The first 30 looks spoke to the brand’s authority in suiting — all clean single-breasted blazers and sharp cigarette pants, a few dresses and some interesting but subtle ruching on the waistlines of coats. Then, things got weird. Jackets became intentionally mussed, from the backs of shift dresses came capes that looped around to the bottom hem to create an orb-like silhouette and a palette of pastels and poppy shades like watermelon pink and red were introduced. With collections like these, Bellotti is quickly proving himself to be one of the industry’s most excitingly unpredictable designers.
Marni
For her debut show as Marni’s creative director last season, Meryll Rogge made a swift return to the house’s crafty, vintage-leaning roots. For spring/summer 2027, that intention remained, but it was edited — a little less quirk, but no less fun. A strong case was made for capris, which were either worn solo or beneath shorts, knee-length skirts (after Prada, there’s obviously something in the Milanese waters) and itty-bitty boxy shift dresses. The weirdness manifested as oversized paillettes, halter-neck knit vests and belted knee-high socks.
