We Now Know What Gabbriette Bechtel Is Doing In Australia

Last week, Gabbriette Bechtel was spotted all over Sydney visiting hotspots like Pellegrino 2000 and those-in-the-know fashion destinations like RTTS.land. Naturally, we wondered what everyone’s favourite spooky muse, model, chef, and fiancé to Matty Healey was up to. Now we have news: Bechtel was in Australia to film a reboot of the 90s screamfest I Know What You Did Last Summer titled I Never Forget What You Did Last Summer.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) is the slasher that famously brought Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar together (may they never be parted). It’s also a seminal relic of 90s slasher cinema.

In the film, four high school graduates, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillipe, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Sarah Michelle Gellar, are reunited when a murderous and mysterious hook-wielding psychopath starts hunting them down following a car accident.

Gabbriette Bechtel will be starring in I Know What You Did Last Summer remake I Never Forget What You Did Last Summer

Phillipe is in his bratty prime, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jennifer Love Hewitt serve a lookbook worth of 90s getups, and Prinzee Jr is at his wide-eyed, dorky best.

Subsequent reboots, including a 2001 Amazon Prime release, have failed to capture its original magic. Bechtel’s presence on the cast list has us intrigued. The uber-it girl got a personal shoutout from Charli XCX as the “blueprint for Brat” and has been the face of spooky TikTok trends like Succubuus chic. Essentially? Her presence on the cast list has us excited. Here’s what we know about the slasher so far. While the franchise has always received mixed reviews, the appetite for all things 90s has never been higher, and we’re eagerly anticipating the series’ return.

What Do We Know About The I Know What You Did Last Summer Remake?

The film’s title is I Never Forget What You Did Last Summer. It’s 27 years after the original was released, and it sounds like the original killer is holding a grudge.

American director and film producer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is directing the reboot. Her previous credits include Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, a blockbuster she co-wrote with director Taika Waititi. She was also a writer on the breakup rom-com Someone Great, the TV series and quirky superhero story Sweet/Vicious, and the dark teen revenge comedy Do Revenge. We’re sensing a theme.

Meanwhile, writer Leah McKendrick will be writing the script and spoke to Collider about her love for the original film. “I just love the IP. I love the original film. I grew up on it as well. And I was really missing horror,” she said. “When you’re rebooting something that you love so deeply from your childhood, you’re like, ‘I know how we can do this and not make it cheesy, and it can stay true to the mythology, and we can bring back the OGs,” she added.

When Will I Never Forget What You Did Last Summer Be Released?

IMDB lists the release date for I Never Forget What You Did Last Summer as July 18th, 2025.

How Many I Know What You Did Last Summer Remakes Have There Been?

The original I Know What You Did Last Summer was adapted from the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan, written by Kevin Williamson (of the Scream series fame), and directed by Jim Gillespie. According to IMDB, the original film was produced with a budget of just $17,000 and grossed $15 million on its opening weekend in the US and Canada. By the end of its run, it had grossed $125 million globally.

It was followed by a sequel in 1998, directed by Danny Cannon and written by Trey Callaway that grossed $84 million with a budget of $24 million. The franchise was then revived in a 2006 film that went straight to DVD before dropping off the radar.

With fresh talent and a new director we have our fingers crossed I Never Forget What You Did Last Summer will be a return to form for the slasher series.
