Picture this: you’ve just inherited a cattle farm in South Australia after your dad’s devastating passing when your estranged half-sister emerges from the woodwork to let you know you’ve actually only inherited half of it because she has the other half and plans to sell it. Not ideal. Such is the premise of one of Australia’s most iconic girl-powered television dramas, McLeod’s Daughters, which Stan has just announced will be rebooted 17 years after its final episode aired.
During the Nine Network’s Upfronts on September 17 Stan confirmed that McLeod’s Daughters will return as a Stan Original in 2027, returning to Drovers Run — the fictional cattle station where McLeod’s Daughters was set — to pick up where it left off 224 episodes and eight years after it first hit the airwaves.
Based on a telemovie created by Posie Graeme-Evans (who also happens to have been the genius behind Hi-5) in 1996, McLeod’s Daughters follows Claire McLeod, played by Lisa Chappell, who inherits her father’s cattle station following his death, and her estranged half-sister Tess Silverman McLeod, played by Bridie Carter, as they work together with their housekeeper, Meg and a few other strong-willed female ring-ins to run the cattle station. The show was a runaway success, eventually screening in over 100 countries and at one point, becoming Australia’s most popular drama series.
Its final few seasons saw the show lose steam, both in quality and popularity, but here’s hoping the reboot gives McLeod’s Daughters a chance to rewrite history.
What Will The McLeod’s Daughters Reboot Be About?
In Nine’s Upfront, they were tight-lipped when it came to sharing details about the reboot’s premise. A statement about the upcoming series read, “A lot has happened since Australia last visited Drovers Run, but what hasn’t changed is the landscape and the uplifting spirit of the strong, resilient women navigating life on the land alongside the challenges of finding love and connection in the modern world.” A trailer for the series offered little more intel, showing a stampede of horses traversing the (presumably) South Australian outback, with a voiceover delivering the cryptic statement: “The place you remember, just never like this.”
Who Will Be In The McLeod’s Daughters Reboot Cast?
The cast, like the plot, is currently under wraps. If we had to take a guess though, we would put money on Simmone Jade Mackinnon, who played Stevie Ryan, returning to Drovers Run. In an interview with Nine, Mackinnon said, “I think it would be amazing to do a reboot, and I’ve been gunning for it for years. It would be amazing with all those kids grown up, 18, 19-year-olds, running the farm.” Sadly, actress Rachael Carpani will be absent from the show’s reboot following her passing in 2025.
What Happened To Rachael Carpani?
In August of 2025, Rachael Carpani, who played Jodi Fountain McLeod on the show from 2001 until 2007, when she left to pursue acting in the United States, sadly passed away following a lengthy battle with chronic illness. She was 45 when she died.
When will the McLeod’s Daughters reboot be released?
Though Stan has confirmed the series will hit the streamer in 2027, with the teaser trailer saying it’s “coming soon,” no specific release date has been announced just yet. Stay tuned!
